Gerald and Nicolas Vanier, Lekkarod 2015
As Gerald says, it’s been 26 years since “the Husky fever” is in him. “It was in 1992 at the Pedigree Pal Trophy in Bad Mitterndorf in Austria, says the musher. And in 1995, my first husky came home”
Gerald lives in a village in eastern Austria. He shares with visitors his years of passion and complicity with his dogs. “On the trails, I feel free and relaxed to drive with my dogs through nature”
Among his companions are the leaders, Tami and Sita. And behind them Lindsey, Roxy, Zoe, Pia, Ares, Inka, Snoopy, Togo, Snow and Ricco.
In April 2015, Gerald were among those who participated in the launch of the Lekkarod in Alpe d’Huez. “It was a great prologue, he recalls. In a nice atmosphere with my friend Dominique“. Actually, the Austrian musher who could not come in 2017 is back for the 3rd edition. “It means a lot to me, this race is not only the last of the season, but also my last big race to which I will participate”. An honor for the Lekkarod, because Gerald intends to continue to exercise his passion but will participate in future only local races.
With a simple goal, “finish the race with healthy dogs and enjoy the beauty of the landscapes”
In 2018, an Austrian wind will blow on the Lekkarod with Gerald and his compatriot Markus Strele.
